How it works
Teach young players that every flag football play requires a full sprint effort regardless of whether the ball is coming to them.

Your focus
Young players frequently slow down when they realize they are not the primary receiver. Full effort on every route creates space for teammates and builds a competitive team culture. Coaches who reward full-sprint non-targeted runs teach players that effort is valued over outcomes.
Run a 3-receiver passing play; only one receiver is the primary target, the other two must still sprint their full route.
After each play, coach names both the receiver who caught the ball AND a non-targeted receiver who sprinted hard.
The non-targeted full-sprint recognition earns the team a bonus rep of their favorite play.
Run 10 plays total; count how many of 20 total non-targeted routes were full sprints.
Goal
You've got it when you sprint every single play, even when the ball isn't coming your way, full speed, no loafing.
Helpful cues
- Sprint every route like the ball is coming to you
- Your effort on the other route matters to the team
- The play the ball did not come to you reveals your effort
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Coach explicitly points to a non-primary receiver after each play and asks them to confirm they ran hard.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
All three receivers run the same route so the QB must choose based purely on effort and separation. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
