Your focus
Zone defense in flag football requires every defender to own a specific area and communicate their coverage to adjacent defenders. Gaps in zone coverage almost always result from miscommunication between adjacent defenders about boundary responsibilities. Verbalizing every zone assignment before the snap eliminates the guesswork that causes busted coverages.
Set up a 4v4 rep with a defense playing zone coverage; before each snap, defenders call their zone name aloud ('I have right flat', 'I have deep middle').
Adjacent defenders acknowledge each other's calls with a point or a verbal confirmation ('Got it').
Run the play and grade whether each defender stayed in their called zone and helped their neighbor when needed.
After each rep, identify any uncovered zones and trace the communication failure.

You've got it when every defender confirms their zone assignment out loud before the snap, no silent gaps in the coverage.
