How it works
Teach young players the correct athletic ready position used in all flag football movements.
What you need
- cones
Your focus
A proper athletic stance is the foundation of every explosive movement in flag football. Young players who learn to stay balanced and low are more ready to run, catch, and pull flags effectively. Ingraining the ready position early prevents bad habits like standing straight up between plays.
Players spread out inside a large cone square and stand normally.
Coach shouts 'Ready!' and players drop into a bent-knee, hip-width stance with hands out front.
Coach walks around and checks: knees bent, flat back, eyes forward, weight on balls of feet.
Alternate between 'Relax' and 'Ready!' 8 times, encouraging quick transitions between states.
Goal
You've got it when you hold the athletic stance without wobbling for the full count, knees bent, weight forward, ready.
Helpful cues
- Bend your knees like you're about to sit down
- Keep your chest up and back flat
- Weight on the balls of your feet, not your heels
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier

Add the next challenge
After 'Ready!' coach immediately points a direction and players sprint 3 yards that way.No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
