How it works

Accelerate decision-making speed under game pressure through a constrained small-sided game requiring one and two-touch play.

What you need

  • field hockey sticks
  • field hockey ball
  • pinnies
  • goals

Your focus

Touch restrictions force earlier decision making, developing the ability to process before receiving. Players who can decide in one touch have a decisive competitive advantage. Game format ensures the decisions are contextually relevant.

1

4v4 on a 25x20-yard field; maximum 2 touches allowed.

2

Any player who takes a third touch loses possession to the other team.

3

Coach rewards bonus points for combinations requiring a quick decision (overlap, give-and-go).

4

Progress to 1-touch only in the final 5 minutes.

Goal

You're doing it right when your one and two-touch decisions happen instantly, the ball doesn't stall while you think about it.

Helpful cues

  • Think the pass before you receive
  • One touch to control, one touch to play, no extras
  • Decision speed is the separator at elite level
