How it works
Demonstrate elite composure by executing penalty strokes while teammates simulate crowd noise, trash talk, and tournament pressure.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- goal
- goalkeeper gear
Your focus
Top-level composure must be proven in the most pressurized environments. Simulating crowd noise and peer pressure in practice inoculates players against real tournament stress. The routine (breathe, decide, execute) must function under maximum external load.
Set up a penalty stroke station; entire team gathers to watch and simulate crowd behavior.
Each player takes 5 penalty strokes while the rest of the team creates noise and (respectful) pressure.
Player must complete a visible pre-stroke routine before each attempt.
Debrief: which players' routines held up best and what was different about their composure?
Goal
You've got it when the noise, the trash talk, and the stakes don't change your approach to the penalty stroke, same routine, same execution.
Helpful cues
- Your routine is your anchor, hold onto it
- The crowd noise means nothing if you don't let it in
- Pressure reveals who you've trained to be

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
