Your focus
Penalty strokes are high-pressure isolated moments that require full composure. Young players who practice the routine (approach, breath, decision, execution) build confidence. Repeated exposure to the scenario reduces anxiety in real game situations.
Players line up for penalty strokes against a goalkeeper.
Before each stroke, player must stop at the top of the circle, take one breath, decide their target corner.
Execute the stroke with full commitment to the chosen corner.
After 5 strokes, player reflects: did they commit to their decision or change their mind mid-stroke?
Helpful cues
- Decide, commit, execute, no changing your mind
- One breath before you go
- Your composure wins the stroke before you take it
