How it works
Execute a full speed-agility-quickness gauntlet and finish with a competitive shot on goal to develop elite-level athleticism.
What you need
- field hockey stick
- field hockey ball
- agility ladder
- hurdles
- goal
Your focus
A gauntlet format stresses the neuromuscular system comprehensively and simulates the physical demands of a full field hockey shift. Adding a shot at the end trains composure and technique under fatigue. Advanced players need progressive overload in both volume and complexity.
Set up in sequence: 5-yard sprint start, agility ladder (10 rungs), 3 mini-hurdles, 5-yard lateral shuffle, then ball and goal.
Sprint through each station in sequence without stopping.
After the lateral shuffle, collect the ball and take a shot on goal.
Rest 60 seconds; complete 5 full reps.
Goal
You're doing it right when you complete the full gauntlet and still finish with a shot on goal that scores, not just surviving the circuit.
Helpful cues
- Attack every station with maximum effort
- Stay low through the hurdles
- Trust your shot technique, don't slow down at the finish
