How it works

Develop multi-component athleticism by combining jumping, sprinting, and dribbling in a sequential circuit.

What you need

  • field hockey stick
  • field hockey ball
  • cones
  • agility ladder

Your focus

Combining multiple physical qualities in one circuit mimics the mixed demands of field hockey. Transitioning between jumping and sprinting and dribbling improves kinesthetic adaptability. Circuit training builds work capacity appropriate for youth athletes.

1

Set up: agility ladder, then 10-yard sprint zone, then a 10-yard dribble course with 3 cones.

2

Player performs two-foot hops through all rungs of the agility ladder.

3

Sprint to the first cone of the dribble course.

4

Dribble through the 3 cones and finish; rest and repeat 3 times.

Goal

You're there when the jump, sprint, and dribble flow together without a restart pause between each element.

Helpful cues

  • High knees through the ladder
  • Drive your arms in the sprint
  • Settle the ball quickly when you pick it up to dribble

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Walk through the ladder instead of hopping.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
