Your focus
Catch-and-shoot decision making is one of the most impactful skills in modern basketball. Players who can read a closeout and make the right choice (shoot if defender is slow, drive if they fly by, pass if help rotates) become high-efficiency offensive players. This decision tree is the foundation of smart offensive basketball.
Player catches a pass on the wing. Coach plays a 'defender' who closes out in one of three ways: short/slow, fly-by with hands down, or short with hands up.
Player reads the closeout and makes the correct decision: short-slow = shoot, fly-by = drive, hands up = pump fake and drive.
Execute the decision and finish. No second-guessing once the decision is made.
Run 15 reps with randomized closeout types.
Goal
It's working when you make the correct shoot-drive-pass decision at least 4 out of 5 reps based on how the closeout comes, not habit.
