How it works
Build mandatory defensive communication habits by requiring players to call all screens, cuts, and assignments out loud.

Your focus
Defense falls apart when players stay silent. Mandatory verbal calls , 'screen left,' 'I got ball,' 'help right' , keep every defender connected to the play. Teams with loud defensive communication consistently give up fewer easy baskets.
Run small-sided activity half of the space with one rule: defenders must call every screen, every cut, and every assignment out loud.
If a defender is silent for 3 seconds while the attacking group moves, the attacking group gets an automatic point.
Coach tracks 'silent moments' versus 'called moments' and announces the score after each possession.
Play 5 possessions, switch offense and defense.
Helpful cues
- Talk before the screen, not after you get hit by it
- 'I got ball' is the most important call in basketball
- If your mouth is closed on defense, you're already behind
