How it works
Make tactical shot decisions under time pressure, choosing between safe crosscourt and aggressive inside-out.
What you need
- tennis balls
- cones
Your focus
Decision-making under time pressure is one of the hardest skills in tennis to train. This drill forces you to commit to a shot choice at the last possible moment , exactly like a real point.
Mark two target cones: crosscourt (safe) and inside-out (aggressive).
Parent feeds ball to your forehand.
Parent calls "safe" or "go" just before contact.
Safe = crosscourt to target A. Go = inside-out to target B.
15 reps. Mix calls. Track how many hit the correct target.
Goal
You've got it when you hit the correct target on 12 of 15 reps, responding cleanly to each call.
Helpful cues
- Eyes on the ball until the last moment, then decide
- Commit fully, half-measures produce half-results
- Trust your technique; the decision is the hard part
