How it works

Develop elite-level net game composure, reflex volleying, and overhead consistency under high-pace, high-frequency ball bombardment.

What you need

  • tennis racket
  • tennis balls
  • court
  • ball hopper
  • cones

Your focus

Advanced net play requires handling pace and rapid decision-making that can only be trained with high-speed repetition. Sustained multi-ball pressure from multiple angles develops the reflex and positioning adjustments that distinguish excellent net players. Players who can volley effectively under fire are dominant doubles competitors and effective singles attackers.

1

Player stands at the net (T-position); two coaches or feeders stand at opposite baseline corners with full hoppers.

2

Feeders alternate rapid-fire feeds at the net player, low, high, at the body, and wide, with approximately 3-second intervals between balls.

3

Player must volley each ball into one of two target cones placed diagonally in the opponent's court.

4

Complete three sets of 20 balls each; track accuracy percentage; increase pace in each subsequent set.

Goal

It's real when you stay calm at the net under fast balls and make clean contact, pressure should make your volleys sharper, not shakier.

Helpful cues

  • Compact backswing, there's no time for a full swing
  • See the ball, react, recover center
  • Punch through the ball, not at it

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Use one feeder only, slow the pace, and increase interval to 5 seconds.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add random lobs every fifth ball so the player must read, back up for the overhead, and return to net immediately.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
