How it works
Introduce competitive drive by rewarding the player who keeps trying the hardest through an entire short rally sequence.

Your focus
Young players benefit most from associating competition with effort rather than outcomes. When the reward is for the player who tries last rather than wins the point, it shifts focus to persistence and competitive spirit. This positive competition frame sets up healthy competitive habits before outcome-focus takes over.
Coach feeds a cooperative rally between two players; balls land anywhere and both players chase every ball.
The player who successfully hits the last ball of the rally (the one that finally lands out or is not reached) is awarded a point regardless of who caused it.
Play to five points; celebrate effort on every ball, not just the winner.
Switch pairings after each game so every player competes with a new partner, building social competitive drive.
Helpful cues
- Keep going, you could win the last ball!
- Hustle to every ball, that is how you win!
- Cheer for the great effort, not just the point.
