How it works

Develop leg power for shooting by completing a strength circuit followed by immediate power shots.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball
  • goals

Your focus

Shooting power comes from leg strength and explosive hip drive. Training leg power exercises immediately before shooting creates a potentiation effect , power-trained muscles fire more explosively, building both strength and the neural connection between power and ball striking.

1

Circuit: 10 squat jumps → 5 explosive step-ups each leg → 5 power bounds → immediate shot on goal.

2

Player completes the circuit, then shoots a stationary ball from 18 yards.

3

Check your shooting technique (or have a parent watch): full ankle lock, follow-through, body position.

4

Rest 90 seconds. Repeat 4 times.

5

Measure power: how far past the goal does the ball carry on shots that miss high?

6

Track improvement over sessions.

Goal

Success is feeling your shots get faster and harder across the circuit, the strength work should make the ball jump off your foot, not just make you tired.

Helpful cues

  • Drive through the ball, your whole body is in the shot
  • Land soft on the jumps, then explode again
  • Power without accuracy is wasted, aim for corners

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

5 regular squats instead of jumps; 10-yard shot.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a moving ball, half-volley from a serve after the circuit.

Build a practice plan

Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
