Press Resistance

How it works
Receive a rolled pass with a single presser behind you and find a way to turn, shield, or play forward, replicating the most common press situation in a game.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
Your focus
Every player who receives the ball in a game faces a presser. Practicing this 1v1 scenario at home , with just a parent or sibling applying light pressure , builds the body control, scanning habits, and decision-making to play out of a press at game speed.
Mark a 10x5 yard zone with 4 cones. Stand at one end; a parent/sibling stands 2 yards behind you as the presser.
The presser rolls the ball to your feet from the side. Receive it with your back to the presser.
Option A: Use your first touch to turn, plant, spin, and accelerate into the open zone.
Option B: Shield the ball, draw the presser in, then play back past them and spin to receive the return.
Do 10 reps. Switch roles every 5 reps so both players practice both skills.
Goal
Success is turning cleanly at least 3 out of 5 reps, your touch takes you forward or into space instead of back into the presser's path.
Helpful cues
- Scan before the ball arrives, know where the presser is
- First touch is everything: touch away from pressure, not into it
- Stay low and use your body width to shield
