Your focus
Elite press resistance means recognizing when to hold vs. release quickly. Training one-touch and two-touch solutions under pressing pressure builds the decision-making speed needed in competitive matches.
Parent starts 5 yards from player. Ball is played to player from 10 yards away (cone target or second parent).
Player receives, parent immediately closes as a high press.
Player must release with one or two touches back into the space the press left.
10 reps: 5 one-touch, 5 two-touch (first touch to set, second to play).
Track: how many times does the player keep possession? Target 8 of 10.
Goal
You've got it when you keep possession 8 of 10 times without panicking or losing the ball forward.
Helpful cues
- Read the press before the ball arrives
- Play away from the pressure, not into it
- First touch sets the next pass, don't take it back toward pressure
