How it works

In a 1v1 in a small zone, maintain possession for 15 seconds against an active pressing parent, using all press resistance skills.

What you need

  • soccer ball

Your focus

Combining all press resistance tools under competitive pressure is the final step. This tests whether the player can hold possession in a match-like scenario with no pre-assigned solution.

1

Mark a 5x5 yard zone.

2

Player has the ball. Parent presses actively, tries to win the ball.

3

Player tries to keep possession for 15 seconds using any technique: shield, turn, dribble, lay-off.

4

Play 5 rounds. Award 1 point for every second of possession maintained.

5

Target: 12+ seconds in at least 3 of 5 rounds.

Goal

You've nailed it when you maintain possession for 12+ seconds at least 3 times out of 5.

Helpful cues

  • Constantly adjust your body to face away from pressure
  • Change pace, slow down the press, then burst
  • Use the full zone, don't get cornered

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Increase the zone to 8x8 yards.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Reduce zone to 4x4, no room to run.
