Your focus
Soccer involves high-intensity bursts followed by recovery at lower intensity , not constant running. Interval rondos train this specific aerobic pattern while simultaneously developing technical skills, making it one of the most efficient drills in youth soccer development.
5v2 rondo in a 12-yard circle.
Play at maximum intensity for 90 seconds.
Whistle: 30-second walking recovery (players walk within the rondo, no pressing).
Whistle again: back to full intensity for 90 seconds.
Complete 5 cycles of 90-second work + 30-second rest.
Track how many consecutive passes are completed in each work period.
Goal
It's clicking when your possession quality in the high-intensity rounds stays close to the recovery rounds, pressure doesn't destroy your touch.
Helpful cues
- Max effort in the work period, that's where you improve
- Recovery is active, slow your breathing, keep moving
- The last work period should be as intense as the first
