How it works

Perform consecutive two-foot broad jumps for max distance to develop bilateral lower-body power and landing control.

What you need

  • cones or tape marks

Your focus

The broad jump is one of the purest measures of lower-body explosive power , which drives acceleration, jumping, and first-step quickness across every sport. The 'series' format (consecutive jumps) adds a conditioning demand and trains athletes to absorb and immediately re-express power, which is what happens on every cut, take-off, or push-off in competition.

1

Mark a start line with a cone or tape.

2

Athlete stands with feet shoulder-width apart behind the line.

3

Swing arms back, dip into a quarter-squat, then explosively jump as far forward as possible.

4

Land on both feet simultaneously, absorbing with bent hips and knees.

5

Without pausing, immediately load and jump again.

6

Complete 5 consecutive jumps. Mark the landing spot.

7

Walk back. Rest 90 seconds. Complete 4 total sets.

8

Track distance each set and aim for consistency.

Goal

You've got it when your 5-jump series distance is consistent across all 4 sets, power maintained, not fading.

Helpful cues

  • Swing your arms aggressively, they add 15-20% to your jump distance
  • Land in the same position you took off from, consistent posture
  • Don't let your knees cave in on landing
  • The instant you land, your toes should be loaded, jump again from there
