How it works

Build game-specific endurance by alternating between full-speed 4v4 possessions with active recovery between rounds.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal
  • pinnies

Your focus

Game-specific conditioning builds the energy system demands that match actual play patterns , intense bursts followed by brief recovery. Possessions-based conditioning also ensures technical quality is maintained under fatigue.

1

4v4 possession (40 seconds at full intensity). 20 seconds active recovery (jog to half, back).

2

Repeat for 8 rounds (approximately 8 minutes total).

3

Track goals scored in each round.

4

After all 8 rounds, coach evaluates which rounds had the highest quality decision-making.

Goal

You're there when the skill finisher at the end of each interval still looks clean, an accurate shot or pass while breathing hard means your conditioning is real.

Helpful cues

  • Use every second of recovery actively, keep moving, keep breathing
  • Round 7 and 8 should look like round 1, that's the goal of this drill
  • Your recovery is part of your performance, treat it with the same intention
