Your focus
Full-game fitness requires players to execute skills, decisions, and physical actions with the same quality in the 60th minute as in the 1st. This drill tests and builds game-length conditioning with technical accountability built in.
Run a 6v6 scrimmage in three 20-minute thirds with 3-minute rest between.
After each third, every player rates their technical quality on a 1-5 scale.
Coach compares technical quality ratings across thirds to identify fitness-related degradation.
Post-session: each player identifies the skill that suffered most and commits to its conditioning training.
Goal
It's clicking when your performance in the final quarter of the session looks the same as the first, that's the standard, and everything before it is just building toward it.
Helpful cues
- If your catches get worse in the third period, your endurance is limiting your skill
- Pace yourself in the first third, don't go all-out and fade
- The fittest player doesn't always run the fastest; they make the best decisions in the 60th minute
