How it works
Develop elite decision-making by running a live scrimmage with mandatory pause-and-debrief protocol focused exclusively on decision quality rather than outcomes.

Your focus
Elite decision-making development requires players to understand why a decision was correct or incorrect, not just whether the play worked. Outcome-blind debriefs build the self-awareness and analytical thinking that drives rapid decision-making improvement. Players who can evaluate their own decisions in real time become self-coaching competitors at the highest level.
Run a full 5-on-5 scrimmage with one rule: coach can blow the whistle at any moment to ask any player what their decision was and why.
Player must explain their read and the option they chose; teammates may not help.
Coach gives a 10-second verdict, correct, incorrect, or situation-dependent, before restarting play.
Track each player's decision accuracy across 5 coached pauses; set a decision score target for next scrimmage.
Goal
You're doing it right when the post-scrimmage debrief reveals you can accurately explain why you made each decision, not just what you did.
Helpful cues
- Every decision has a reason, know yours
- Right outcome, wrong read still means wrong decision
- Build your read speed: identify the situation before you receive the puck
