Your focus
Elite-level resilience is the ability to perform at a high level after multiple consecutive adverse events, not just one. The gauntlet format exposes players to the compounding nature of adversity and trains them to find composure even when the situation feels overwhelming. Players who complete this drill have a reference point for handling real-game sequences of bad luck, penalties, and turnovers.
Player runs 5 sequential scenarios with no rest: penalty shot attempt, 1-on-2 offensive situation, a phantom penalty call, a forced turnover drill, and a final penalty shot.
Player must maintain head-up body language throughout all 5 stages.
Coach applies verbal pressure to test emotional response.
Debrief on composure at each stage: what was easy, what broke it, what recovered it.
Helpful cues
- Resilience is not about avoiding adversity, it is about finishing the gauntlet
- Each stage is a chance to reset, not a continuation of failure
- Your last rep is a penalty shot, nail it, no matter what came before
