How it works
Develop lower body and core power by striking a ball with maximum force against a wall target.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- target wall or board
Your focus
Striking power in field hockey comes from lower body and core strength. Practicing maximum-force strikes develops the muscle groups needed for hard hits and flicks. Using a wall target allows immediate feedback on both power and accuracy.
Player positions 10 yards from a wall; marks a target on the wall.
Strike the ball as hard as possible at the target.
Collect the rebound and strike again; complete 15 power strikes.
Increase distance to 15 yards when consistent power is achieved.
Goal
You're there when your power strike leaves a solid mark on the wall target, enough force that it didn't just touch, it hit.
Helpful cues
- Rotate your hips through the strike to generate power
- Full follow-through transfers all your power to the ball
- Power comes from the ground up, push with your legs
